Interventional radiology is a subspecialty of radiology. Interventional radiology is premised on using advanced imaging techniques and procedure with the goal of being less invasive and to speed patient recovery. Interventional radiology can be performed in conjunction with an ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, laparoscopy, fluoroscopy or endoscopy.

With our state-of-the-art cath lab and expert cardiologists, we can perform minimally invasive interventional procedures including:
- Diagnostic Angiography
- Balloon Valvuloplasty for Pulmonic Stenosis
- Canine Ductal Occluder for Patent Ductus Arteriosus
- Temporary and Permanent Pacemakers for Bradyarrhythmias
- Stenting and Coil Embolization for Hepatic Shunts

Interventional Radiology Specialists
Dr. Ale Aguirre completed a three-year residency program in internal medicine after earning his doctorate of veterinary medicine. He has met specific training and caseload requirements and performed research to develop new interventional techniques. Dr. Aguirre was one of the first to start offering interventional procedures in Arizona.
Dr. Chris Paige is the primary heart disease specialist performing the cath lab procedures at VETMED. To perform veterinary cardiology, Dr. Chris Paige has completed a three-year residency program after earning his doctorate of veterinary medicine. He has met specific training and caseload requirements, performed research and had his research published.
